Are you happy?

Are you happy?

It seems like a fairly straightforward question. Often the answer is yes, since I am not experiencing anger or sadness, or some other contradictory emotion. However, it goes a little deeper. The happiness I speak of includes fulfillment of your passions, satisfaction with your life, harmony with your routine, connection to others and the world around you.

I meet so many women who feel like they are going through the motions, trying to get everything done, and meeting the needs of everyone else, that they begin to feel hollow. It begins subtly, but over time may become a functional depression.

This is occurring more and more in the lives of the Supermoms, and is very understandable. Our cultural expectations have gotten to this place of unrealistic pressure on us moms, and being the high achievers we are, we jump to the challenge.

I propose a new challenge. My challenge is to reclaim ourselves.

We can do this!
We won’t have to sacrifice our families, or our work.

It’s time to start shifting society’s expectations, and teach the world that you are just as important as the rest of your family.

  1. Wonderful thoughts. We should compete with ourselves rather than competing with others. By so doing, we enhance our inner resolve.

    1. Yes! Compete with ourselves with kindness. Thank you for sharing your wonderful thoughts!
