You may as well love it

When i have seasons in my life of longer work hours, such as this week, it gets me thinking.

If you work full time, you spend half of your awake time at work.

This is a major reason to do what you love, to do it in a supportive environment, and with non-toxic people.

I am feeling pretty grateful this morning to have this. Not only is my work family fantastic, but my nuclear family is involved. They have all been here this week, even Bo made an appearance 🐶

Tea is so good for me

My essentials everyday.

Since I had just recovered from a nasty virus before beginning a busy week, I have been steeping a mug of Get Well tea every morning to keep my immune system strong.

Also, it contains mullein, which supports the throat. Since I’m teaching, I’m doing a lot of talking, and can use that support as well.

Last night, I comforted myself and prepped for bed with a soothing cup of 101 Sheep. This morning I noticed my daughter got in on the action with her own mug to go 😀

I seriously don’t know what I’d do without these teas.

Are you up for a challenge?

Yesterday one of the students I’ve worked with for a few years told me “you’re the best choreographer I’ve ever worked with because you always challenge me”.

First of all, aaaaahhhhh thanks. Secondly, it got me thinking, I do love to challenge people. Whether it be kids learning a dance, adults learning to move to improve their physical and emotional health, or in my coaching sessions. If you’re challenged you’re growing.

I know being challenged can sound scary, but the reward is always greater. You get to reveal to yourself the extraordinary and amazing things that you are capable of.

Toeing the line of balance with jammed piggies

This week, I jammed 3 toes. Just in time for dance camp . Yes, on my feet all day, dancing, for a week.

That’s the beauty of life though (moderate sarcasm). It always gives you the opportunity to toe the line (see what I did there 😜) of balance between self care and commitments.

We all have our own things that need nurturing, but the world doesn’t stop. So you have to work it in.

In my particular case, I will be armed with Rescue Remedy and Aches & Pains salve. Also, when the kids take a break, so will I, meaning I will actually sit down with them. Lastly, I will let them know my plan because kids make REALLY good accountability partners 😂

Leveraging my 2 hours of willpower

I have gotten into a really bad habit.

Did you know that the first couple of hours of your day is when you have the most willpower and clarity?

Despite knowing that, I’ve let myself fall into the bad habit of checking emails and messages first thing in the morning. This kills my productivity, creativity, and leaves me feeling scattered and unaccomplished.

Through some gentle encouragement from a program that I’m participating in now, I’ve decided to reclaim my good habit of morning goal cards.

Goal cards are single handedly one of the most powerful tools I use. You write your goal or mindset shift on the card as if it has already occurred, and read it every morning.

This is actually how we found our family car that I still love! Reading my goal card every morning about finding the perfect car for my family that I could easily afford magically led me to it. Seriously, it was magic!

I missed a turn on a route that I took all of the time, which led me a different way where I ended up passing the car, and it immediately caught my eye. I knew that I had better not ignore this coincidence, and stopped to look at it. When I met the person selling the car, he turned out to be an old friend of my husband, and sold it to us for the auction rate! Magic!

Dentists Get Cavities

You may have noticed I’ve been quiet lately. If you follow me on social media, you probably saw that I succumbed to a nasty virus.

I’m actually just starting to poke my head out from under this horrid thing, and since it lasted so long it gave me time to think.

I realized how much I dislike getting sick (obviously), but for another reason. I realized that it almost feels like I’ve failed. I’m a health coach, I shouldn’t be getting sick, and if I do, at the very least I should be able to bounce right back. Right?

Obviously, my analytical brain realizes this is nonsense, but my emotional brain eats it up, and sort of nags at me.

I know I’m not the only one that does this. You feel defeated for something that was out of your control in the first place, or don’t try something because of the possible uncontrollable result.

Can you think of one of these scenarios in your life?

Where are you expecting yourself to be perfect?

Then one person commented on my status “Dentists get cavities”

BRILLIANT!

Of course dentists get cavities. They’re not superhuman. Would you stop going to your dentist if they have ever had a cavity?

So from here on out, whenever you expect yourself to be perfect, remember that dentists get cavities, and carie (haha) on with your imperfectly amazing self!

I’m Revealing My Natural First Aid Kit

When I started learning about natural health and remedies, one of the first things I phased out was over the counter pain killers like acetaminophen and ibuprofen. I suppose it was fairly easy since they were not something that I regularly took.

When I reflect back searching for the reason I intuitively felt like I didn’t want it in the house anymore, I remember my daughter was a baby at the time, and it seemed like children’s acetaminophen was the go to recommendation for everything baby related. I knew I didn’t want that for her, or for me.

Most people consider painkillers completely harmless, yet over time they can contribute to gastrointestinal issues, kidney and liver toxicity. In other words, over time, the solution becomes the problem.

So, what to use now?

Often times, the need for pain relief is in connection with illness or chronic pain. Both of these are prevented with good ol’ fashioned healthy living. A diet consisting of unprocessed foods, physical activity, and managing stress helps keep immunity up and inflammation down. This reduces pain and other issues that even create a need for OTC painkillers.

However, situational stuff does come up, and we need some support. Over time I have created my own natural first aid kit. Here’s what’s in my kit:

  • Super Salve – for anything skin related, such as rashes, bites, scrapes, etc
  • Aches & Pains Salve – for bumps, bruises, muscle/ joint pain, sprains/ strains
  • Arnica Homeopathic Pellets – for bruises, swelling, injuries, arthritis and pain relief
  • Hypericum Homeopathic Pellets – for minor head injuries, nerve issues, dental injuries/ pain

and I have certainly saved the best for last. This is my go to, all around, keep it on me at all times remedy:

  • Rescue Remedy Drops or Pastilles – great for any situational physical or mental stress

I have seen Rescue Remedy do some amazing things. I offered it to someone who had a bad fall that busted her lip and caused swelling in her face. After taking Rescue Remedy, the pain and swelling went down, and brought her immediate relief. A friend’s son had an anaphylactic reaction to acetaminophen, so she gave him Rescue Remedy, which reduced the swelling immediately. It has helped with test anxiety, stress, and countless falls. I could go on and on about it.

Soothe Your Nerves One Cup at a Time

I have often heard herbalists claim that everyone in modern society should take oat straw. Pretty steep claim, but I have been finding myself recommending it repeatedly lately. So, I thought in an ongoing effort to simplify health & harmony, it would be a great idea to break it down.

Oat straw is classified as an herb. It is the young version of the oat plant, so is harvested before the oat actually develops. It’s considered a nerve tonic, which means that it soothes the nervous system, and calms anxiety. The reason for the broad recommendation is that the pace of our modern society tends to tax the sympathetic nervous system, or the fight or flight response. This long term fight or flight mode creates ongoing stress in the body and mind, which over time leads to health problems such as autoimmune issues, depression, and/ or anxiety. This beautiful herb soothes those frazzled nerves to restore health and harmony.

Milky oats, as it’s also called, has nutritional benefits as well. High in B vitamins, oat straw helps increase energy and metabolism. It also provides vitamins A and C, calcium, magnesium, iron, and amino acids – the building blocks of protein, which are some of the essentials for women.
