The First Piece Of The Equation To Have The Imperfectly Amazing Life You Crave

Sometimes life takes over, and you find yourself on auto-pilot. You’re not really enjoying anything, you’re just trying to manage the busy. When you find yourself in that situation, take a step back and remember the formula: gratitude + time for you = imperfectly amazing

In this video, I discuss my recent example of using gratitude to save the day, and why it’s such an important practice that can powerfully change your mindset, and bring joy to your life.

Points to remember for your practice

  • Like draws like – When you focus your attention on the things you don’t like, you draw more of it. When you shift your energy to what is good, even when the sky is falling all around you, you will bring more of the good.
  • Practice makes perfect – The more you do this, the more instinctual it becomes, which means you draw more and more of the good stuff.
  • Don’t beat yourself up – When you catch yourself having a Debbie Downer moment. Don’t berate yourself, just change the thoughts. Tell yourself, that’s how the old me would think about this situation, but the new me is grateful for …
  • Grow huge gratitude muscles – At the beginning of your day, or at the end, or both, take a few minutes to find 1 – 3 things to be grateful for. Find things that apply to your recent day, so that you are constantly practicing how to find the diamond in the rough rather than choosing the same things repeatedly (like your kids or wine), because energy won’t fall for that.

Make a special date with you to reinvigorate joy

We all have things we want in our lives. Whether you call them dreams, passions, or goals, they are what motivate you to drag through the mundane and conquer the busy. Yet when the mundane and busy threaten to take over, it’s essential to dedicate time to check in with yourself.

Here are some things to ask yourself – Where are you in your pursuit of your dreams? Or maybe even, what are your dreams? Have your goals changed since you last checked in? Has your life shifted, and you need to accommodate these changes?

 

For me personally, I have quite a few things I do for personal fulfillment, but sometimes it can get really busy and start to take over. I am also a homeschooling mom, and have a goal for regular time out with the kids for all of us to recharge. My goal had not changed, but some of my other commitments did, and I had to check back in for a revamp of my calendar since it’s very purpose is to keep me present, and it seemed like I was fighting it and feeling very un-present. When I shifted my schedule to embrace the new natural flow of our lives, all of a sudden everything seemed to fall in place, and I was feeling like I was achieving my goals again.

 

It’s your turn.

 

First, schedule some quiet time – maybe first thing in the morning or last thing at night. It doesn’t matter when, as long as it realistically works for you.

 

Reflect – ask yourself the questions above. Be honest and non-judgemental with yourself. This isn’t about putting yourself down. It’s about identifying where you are and what your next steps are towards your dreams.

 

Create action steps – what are the steps you will take towards your goals? Break them down in realistic pieces. If step 1 is going to take 3 hours, and you never have 3 hours to give, then that should be broken down into smaller chunks, so you will actually get started.

 

Schedule it – I may start to sound like a broken record on this one, but maybe you will begin to believe me 😉 If you want something to happen in your life, you must dedicate time to it, and if you aren’t specific about when that time is, it will keep getting pushed back.

 

Get accountability – it can be easy to let things go when there is no one to report your progress to. Find an accountability partner or get a coach that resonates with you, but will also push you.

 

A great way to give yourself accountability is to share with a comment. Tell us where you are, and what your next step is?

  • Find it! – it sounds obvious, but expectations can sabotage the process. There are different ways to open up your subconscious to learn your blocks – movement, journaling, meditation.

  • Schedule it! – unless you create time in your life to work on it, it won’t magically happen

What to remember when practicing gratitude

  • The point is to focus your energy on more of the things that you want to happen in your life, so you will draw more of the same
  • Even though tough times can make it difficult to be grateful, remember “it could be worse”
  • Taking time to reflect on your day with gratitude keeps you present, which lowers stress, and just makes you a happier person

Surviving to Thriving with Your Powerful Community

We are wired for it, but somehow aren’t always part of connections that allow us to thrive. At one time, we were dependent on our community for survival. Even though that’s not the case anymore, having community still supports and propels us to the most amazing versions of ourselves.

Some ways to harness the power of community

  • Be open to collaborating with new people.
    • People that understand your circumstances, but aren’t personally tied to your outcomes can be your best supporters.
  • Be willing to invest in yourself.
    • Committing to a mastermind or coaching group not only allows you to invest in yourself (your biggest asset), but connects you with a group of people that are as committed to growth as you are.
  • Have trust in your community and yourself
    • Stretching your comfort zone for self-growth can be uncomfortable, and trusting the people in your community to comfort and guide you can make the life changing difference of pushing through your fears instead of bowing down into old habits
