When functional is where the pain is

What does depression look like to you?

300 million people around the world struggle with depression, and 3.5 million Americans experience functional depression.

Functional depression is not debilitating. You carry on with your everyday life, but it may feel like you’re under a cloud. You can see the opportunities for joy, but not feel them.

When I was in my early 20’s, I lost 2 cousins within a year of each other. It was so hard for me, and I ended up with functional depression for awhile. I remember how heavy my feet felt. Whenever I walked, even across a room, they were weighted. The people that surrounded me didn’t get it, so they just got mad at me for not getting over it.

Then one day, walking the same path that I always walked, my feet weren’t so heavy anymore! They got lighter and lighter each day until I felt like me again.

Simple food and lifestyle tweaks can help enormously with mental health symptoms. I’ve seen it in myself, and I’ve had the honor to help others.

You absolutely deserve to love your life! If you are struggling, please feel free to reach out to me, or anyone that will support you.

Tea is so good for me

My essentials everyday.

Since I had just recovered from a nasty virus before beginning a busy week, I have been steeping a mug of Get Well tea every morning to keep my immune system strong.

Also, it contains mullein, which supports the throat. Since I’m teaching, I’m doing a lot of talking, and can use that support as well.

Last night, I comforted myself and prepped for bed with a soothing cup of 101 Sheep. This morning I noticed my daughter got in on the action with her own mug to go 😀

I seriously don’t know what I’d do without these teas.

Leveraging my 2 hours of willpower

I have gotten into a really bad habit.

Did you know that the first couple of hours of your day is when you have the most willpower and clarity?

Despite knowing that, I’ve let myself fall into the bad habit of checking emails and messages first thing in the morning. This kills my productivity, creativity, and leaves me feeling scattered and unaccomplished.

Through some gentle encouragement from a program that I’m participating in now, I’ve decided to reclaim my good habit of morning goal cards.

Goal cards are single handedly one of the most powerful tools I use. You write your goal or mindset shift on the card as if it has already occurred, and read it every morning.

This is actually how we found our family car that I still love! Reading my goal card every morning about finding the perfect car for my family that I could easily afford magically led me to it. Seriously, it was magic!

I missed a turn on a route that I took all of the time, which led me a different way where I ended up passing the car, and it immediately caught my eye. I knew that I had better not ignore this coincidence, and stopped to look at it. When I met the person selling the car, he turned out to be an old friend of my husband, and sold it to us for the auction rate! Magic!

Even knowing how powerfully effective something is for you, you can still fall off track. It happens to all of us. If you want support to get back on track to your goals, feel free to reach out. We can do a quick call to get some clarity. I’m doing it for me too 😘

Have you set your goals or are you beating yourself up?

It’s the final week of the month! Can you believe it?

I’ve sent out videos with the 6 different steps to create goals that matter, and how to ground them into reality, so you will be inspired to take action.

Here is a playlist with all of the videos, in case you’ve lost track – Watch the videos

You are the CEO, CFO, HR rep, and Office Manager of your family (did I leave any out?) Any business that wants to be successful needs a clear vision, so everyone is working towards the same goal. The same is true of your family. If everyone is pulling the rope in a different direction, it won’t be long before YOU’RE feeling pulled in every direction. This is a great resource for setting vision for you and your family, so you can love your life rather than spend it managing busy.

Do you feel like your family is united and moving towards a common goal?

Where are you in the process of creating your goals?

Maybe you haven’t even watched the videos yet. That’s ok. The first step is stop beating yourself up. After that, identify time that is realistic for you to work on it, one piece at a time.

Sometimes we work at a pace that’s slower than we’d like, but it doesn’t mean we stop. Stopping means we never realize our dreams, but slowly chipping away at your goals means you are in a constant state of achieving your dreams.

What time have you allocated for working on this?

Setting Up Success With Goals That Matter – Part 4

Do you feel lighter after getting that load off of your mind in the last video? It is so freeing!

This will give you a fighting chance to be where your feet are (feeling present), and will make a considerable difference in the harmony of your family. There’s a reason for that saying “happy wife, happy life” 🙂

When you feel tense, even only because you are processing the hundreds of things running around in your brain, your family feels it, often without even realizing it. But, when you are present, they relax and experience you!

This next piece is short and sweet, but don’t be fooled, it takes some thought. However, it’s a great way to keep you inspired with the mention of a word!

Setting Up Success With Goals That Matter – Part 2

The New Year brings a fresh beginning, so naturally we are inspired to work on ourselves and create new goals. Yet, have you ever been discouraged by goals not working out for you, or not keeping up with them? It happens to the best of us, and it doesn’t mean we should give up on ourselves or our goal setting practice, it just takes some tweaking so we can know the things that matter to us and our families.

Here is the second step in setting up goals that matter. This time we go backwards to reflect. We learn from our past, and it would be foolish to leave those lessons behind.

What have you learned by reflecting on this past year?

Your Mood Triggers Your Brood

Without you, nothing would ever be found in the refrigerator. EVER!

You are the axis of your family, and have great influence over them. So when things are spiraling, take a step back to reflect on you and set the tone for your family.

Things to remember
Having a regular practice that honors you will keep you calm, and will help keep your family at ease.
I will post my practice 7 Keys to Unlocking an Amazing Day and Life, but you can also access the link to the playlist here

When things are revving up, take a moment to check in with you, and do what it takes to calm yourself – deep breaths, meditation

Talk about how you’re feeling with your kids. This will let them know why you may be on edge for something situational, and it’s a great example of how to communicate your feelings.

This will take great practice since your natural instinct is to address the behavior at hand, so create a cue for yourself to remind you to self-reflect.

What will your cue be?

Give the Greatest Gift of NO

Is it selfish to say no?

Watch the video

Depleted, tired, worn out ol’ you is not a gift to anyone. The people in your life that truly care about you, love you when you are vibrant and amazing, which will require you to say No from time to time.

It’s ok.

It will be uncomfortable at first, and you may find yourself giving a lot of reasons for your no. I’m still pretty guilty of this, but over time you will become more confident, and realize that you are doing them and yourself a service.

You know that thing you’ve been mulling over, asking yourself “should I?”. You know the answer, so stop shoulding all over yourself and say NO dammit!

What will you say no to?
