Yesterday one of the students I’ve worked with for a few years told me “you’re the best choreographer I’ve ever worked with because you always challenge me”.
First of all, aaaaahhhhh thanks. Secondly, it got me thinking, I do love to challenge people. Whether it be kids learning a dance, adults learning to move to improve their physical and emotional health, or in my coaching sessions. If you’re challenged you’re growing.
I know being challenged can sound scary, but the reward is always greater. You get to reveal to yourself the extraordinary and amazing things that you are capable of.
Did you know that the first couple of hours of your day is when you have the most willpower and clarity?
Despite knowing that, I’ve let myself fall into the bad habit of checking emails and messages first thing in the morning. This kills my productivity, creativity, and leaves me feeling scattered and unaccomplished.
Through some gentle encouragement from a program that I’m participating in now, I’ve decided to reclaim my good habit of morning goal cards.
Goal cards are single handedly one of the most powerful tools I use. You write your goal or mindset shift on the card as if it has already occurred, and read it every morning.
This is actually how we found our family car that I still love! Reading my goal card every morning about finding the perfect car for my family that I could easily afford magically led me to it. Seriously, it was magic!
I missed a turn on a route that I took all of the time, which led me a different way where I ended up passing the car, and it immediately caught my eye. I knew that I had better not ignore this coincidence, and stopped to look at it. When I met the person selling the car, he turned out to be an old friend of my husband, and sold it to us for the auction rate! Magic!

You are the CEO, CFO, HR rep, and Office Manager of your family (did I leave any out?) Any business that wants to be successful needs a clear vision, so everyone is working towards the same goal. The same is true of your family. If everyone is pulling the rope in a different direction, it won’t be long before YOU’RE feeling pulled in every direction. Maybe you haven’t even watched the videos yet. That’s ok. The first step is stop beating yourself up. After that, identify time that is realistic for you to work on it, one piece at a time.
Sometimes we work at a pace that’s slower than we’d like, but it doesn’t mean we stop. Stopping means we never realize our dreams, but slowly chipping away at your goals means you are in a constant state of achieving your dreams.
Having self and family goals gives you direction, and provides so much more fulfillment than managing busy.
Our next step in the process involves a complete purge. We have so many thoughts, goals, ideas, and projects, not only for ourselves, but also for our families. Yet, we can’t be present if we’re always jumbling these thoughts around in our brains.
This video definitely gives a gift that keeps giving, and something that you can use at any time, not only when setting goals.
When will you set time aside to complete this step?
The New Year brings a fresh beginning, so naturally we are inspired to work on ourselves and create new goals. Yet, have you ever been discouraged by goals not working out for you, or not keeping up with them? It happens to the best of us, and it doesn’t mean we should give up on ourselves or our goal setting practice, it just takes some tweaking so we can know the things that matter to us and our families.
Here is the second step in setting up goals that matter. This time we go backwards to reflect. We learn from our past, and it would be foolish to leave those lessons behind.
What have you learned by reflecting on this past year?
Depleted, tired, worn out ol’ you is not a gift to anyone. The people in your life that truly care about you, love you when you are vibrant and amazing, which will require you to say No from time to time.
It will be uncomfortable at first, and you may find yourself giving a lot of reasons for your no. I’m still pretty guilty of this, but over time you will become more confident, and realize that you are doing them and yourself a service.
You know that thing you’ve been mulling over, asking yourself “should I?”. You know the answer, so stop shoulding all over yourself and say NO dammit!
We’ve broken down gratitude and time for you. What does it mean when you put it all together? What is imperfectly amazing? It’s letting go of the things that burden you and hold you down, and allow yourself to soar into the life you design – even when the real world gets in the way!
Schedule breaks/ time for yourself – I set up time every morning to meditate, move, review my goals, and get grounded before my little maniac wakes up. When I have that time, I can feel it all day. Likewise, when I miss it, I can really feel it. Find time that makes sense for you and your schedule – don’t force it. If you need help setting up your ideal schedule reach out to me.
Go on a date with yourself – It’s great to review your goals and mantras, but after awhile they may become stale or out of date. Taking time to check in with yourself to reflect on how far you’ve come, and where you’d like to go is essential to feeling like you’re accomplishing something, and not just operating on auto-pilot managing the busy all of the time. This is how you continue to feel inspired and motivated, and enjoying your journey because you know you’re in the driver’s seat
Connect with your subconscious beliefs – if you find there are obstacles all around you, there’s a very good chance that your inner beliefs are getting in the way. My method for tapping in to my subconscious is movement followed by meditation followed by journaling. Doing this in a strategic way has been so mind blowing effective to reveal my sabotaging beliefs, and use them to fuel my goals rather than stump them.
