A Gift For You!

I have put together a gift for you. There’s no special occasion, or holiday, it’s just because.

You see, the more I talk to women about their goals and experiences, the more we end up talking about the silent blocks that seem to get in their way, often times without them even realizing it. We are all affected by these blocks, and they are really tough to bypass until we address them.

But…. if you don’t know what they are, then how can you possibly address them? Exactly. So, I am offering a free video on The 3 Obstacles to Satisfying Your Life’s Cravings (and what to do about them). Spoiler Alert: they’re not your kids, husband, or time 😉

Click here to access the form to get your video

or visit the site at www.kalusion.com

The video is just under a half hour, so set aside a little time, make a cup of tea, and enjoy the message. Thirty minutes is a small investment for your Health & Harmony

Hump Day Harmony: The Chair

Hump Day Harmony is about giving inspiration to help you over whatever mountain is standing in the way of your Health & Harmony

I have an old chair that belonged to my great grandmother, and I absolutely love it. I also love how it allows me to reflect on the lives of two very different yet similar women when I think about the woman that sat in that chair about a century ago (my great grandmother), and the woman that sits in that chair now (me).

My great grandmother’s life was very different than mine in so many ways. She was so poised and polished beginning her day by dressing with hose on her legs and heels on her feet. Her hair was set perfectly, and her clothes were pressed and lovely. This was a practice she maintained into her 90’s. She was in charge of managing the household, yet many of the family’s needs were delivered directly to the door, such as milk, and meat. This left her with plenty of time to drive my grandmother and great aunt absolutely bonkers. It almost seems that life was not nearly as rushed for her when I compare it to my day to day life. Yet, she was burdened with expectations; expectations that came from society, and from herself. She felt a pressure to be sure that she managed herself and her family in a certain manner, and that was her sole purpose. Her passions were the silly activities of women with no real world value, and her contributions to society were not appreciated.

Fast forward 100 years, as I sit in my great-grandmother’s chair more than likely in a pair of yoga pants or jeans with the freedom to choose my impact on the world, and the satisfaction of knowing that I can invaluably contribute in a positive way. Yet, I also sit with the burden of expectations, though now the expectations seem to have grown. I am expected to work and contribute to this world or I have not done my part to further women; I am expected to be a devoted mother and wife, or I am failing our future and my responsibilities; and I am still expected to manage the household as my great-grandmother did – keep the refrigerator stocked, the plates full, the checkbook balanced, and the bank account abundant.

The one expectation that neither my great-grandmother nor I seem to have is an expectation to dedicate any time or thought to taking care of ourselves, and yet without devotion to ourselves how do we remain whole enough to fulfill all these expectations?

Perhaps you have felt the burden of expectations from time to time, or they are so subconscious that you haven’t even realized they were there. Even if you haven’t noticed them, you most likely have encountered someone willing to offer judgment based on these expectations. Moms that judge the mom on her phone at the playground, customers that judge the woman with the tantrumming child in the grocery store, co-workers that judge the mother that missed a deadline because her child was sick, and so on and so on. These judgments further ingrain the societal expectations into our own subconscious, that when we do exercise free-will, it’s hard to be clear if our choices belong to us or are the result of a burden we feel mandated to meet.

So in protest of the cultural pressure to be perfect, should we send our kids to school smelly, and stop paying the bills. That actually does sound kind of awesome, but may be a bit extreme for most of us. However, instead maybe we can let ourselves off the hook a little bit. Maybe it can be ok if you go get a well deserved massage after work, and your child misses one dance class; maybe it can be ok to schedule a “skip” day from work and school, and have fun with your family; maybe it can be ok that the only way you can take a call or get any work done is by letting your child run on the playground, and let the judgers judge?

Expectations, whether internal or external usually lead to disappointment, so can we agree to be ok with letting go of perfection, and embrace the joy in our lives?

I would love to hear your thoughts. Do you ever feel the pressure of expectations? Have you ever felt the freedom of letting them go?

For many of us these expectations are so ingrained in our subconscious. It makes sense when you think about the two women sitting in the chair 100 years apart feeling their burden. That’s why it can take some outside support, and learning how to turn off our thoughts to get to our real life’s cravings. If you are interested in receiving this type of support, The Have It All Method is a 9 week virtual coaching program that offers just that, and a new session begins March 21. Monday Makeover – Pit Paste

Adopting a healthy lifestyle does not mean saying good-bye to the things you love forever. It’s a continuous shift; a shift away from the things that are not serving you, and towards that which allows you to shine.

Last week, I shared an article “7 Reasons to Quit Using Store Bought Deodorant”, which got some conversations going, and then a day or two later I noticed another friend looking for advice on natural deodorant. So I figured, it must be time to share my makeover on deodorant.

My motivation came at my annual doctor appointment quite a few years ago when the examining doctor found a lump in my breast, and I found one in my throat. Those are just not the words you ever want to hear. The doctor went on to comment that it was near my armpit, which is where most lumps occur. Really?? It seemed fairly obvious to me that most every adult has a daily ritual that involves their armpits, and perhaps we should be examining this a little further. At this time, the issues of chemicals in deodorant weren’t as publicized as they are now.

Ok, throw away all store bought deodorant. Then real life sets in and you realize you also don’t really want to stink. In my case, a parade of natural deodorants marched into my home just to end up in a drawer. They were followed by crystals, which worked fairly well until pregnancy hormones were introduced to the battle, and those poor crystals didn’t stand a chance. Around the same time, my daughter was coming of age to start wearing a deodorant, and I knew I had to find something that I would be ok with her wearing. Finally, I stumbled on a recipe that was victorious in the battle of stink.

It’s really easy, and really effective. Here you go…

1/3 cup coconut oil

1/4 cup (aluminum free) natural baking soda

1/4 cup arrowroot powder

20 drops essential oils – I find lavender is essential, some other good choices to blend are geranium, cypress, clary sage, basil, or kunzea

So there you have it. Adopting a more natural approach to your self-care routine is not just a great way to honor you, but helps improve hormone issues, autoimmune issues, and reduce the risk of cancer. Not to mention, when your body is working better and feeling better, so are you!

Don’t Let March Happen to You

If you have ever spent any time at a fitness center, whether as a member or employee, you know the January rush of “resolutioners” each year that completely dissipates every March. By the time March arrives, life has started to interfere with your goals, or you pursued them so furiously that you burned yourself out, or even yet you were chasing the wrong goals to begin with.

I have noticed that when people choose a goal, they think they have picked something they really want. It’s usually in the form of less weight or more money. However, this is usually only scratching the surface, and more of a by-product of the true craving that’s lying deep inside of you.

When you are chasing hard after something that doesn’t truly resonate with you in the first place, it’s really difficult to not let life get in the way. I mean, why work so hard for something that you aren’t totally passionate about. This means, you haven’t been unsuccessful in achieving your goals, you just haven’t been chasing them.

I find that March is a perfect time to check in with your goals instead of chucking them. March brings the first day of spring, which brings new life, and another new beginning.

So, here are some questions to ask yourself as you re-evaluate your goals:

Why do I really want to achieve this goal? What am I really craving?

Can I chunk this goal into smaller steps?

How can I create accountability to achieve this goal?

What is working so far?

What isn’t working?

You have it in you to achieve everything you dream of. Sometimes you just need a little support along the way.

If you are interested in partnering with me to learn how to turn off your thoughts to find your life’s cravings, and holistically achieve them with loving accountability then reach out to me at kaluwa@kalusion.com or check out more information on The Have It All Method at www.kalusion.com

From the Heart

Happy February!

As our thoughts shift to love, it’s a great time to open up your heart chakra. This means unconditional love for you and your community.

As the heart chakra’s element is air, this is a perfect time to practice breathing. I know breathing is pretty automatic, but full belly breathing may require some practice. On your inhale breathe all the way to your belly letting it fill up with air, and on your exhale push the air from your belly letting it sink down again. This is a great way to take tension out of your shoulders, and reduce feelings of stress. While you are taking a moment for yourself, extend your arms out to your sides. Notice how they extend from your heart. Your arms and hands are extensions of your heart, so use them to wrap around yourself and give you a big hug, then go share one of those hugs with someone you love. Do it right now, I just did 🙂

The color associated with the heart chakra is green, and since you are what you eat, it’s time to eat your greens.

I hope you enjoy a day bursting with love this Valentine’s Day and every day!

Before I sign off, I want to let you know that The Have It All Method is starting a new group session on February 13. It is a 9 week group program that uses the energy centers to help you dig deep and find your authentic goals. I’ve learned it’s important to dig deep since many times the goal you think you want is just the surface, and when you go deeper and find your true desire it also fires your motivation and passion. This makes an enormous difference in your success.

This program is perfect for overwhelmed women feeling buried under their “To Do” lists. It’s a chance to connect with other high achieving women to RESET * REJUVENATE * and RECEIVE so you can make the shift from doing it all to HAVING IT ALL!

I would love for you to join me in the group. There is more information available on the website as well as a free webinar. Also, feel free to schedule a time to talk one on one with me to learn more and see if it’s the right fit for you. You can schedule here.

Flawless Friday – Password Reset???

Flawless Friday is a day dedicated to reminding you that you are already amazing. You are the most absolutely perfect you in this very moment. So take a moment to appreciate you.

whos-awesome

Today’s suggestion for Flawless Friday is a password reset. Now, I realize that doesn’t sound real sexy, but bear with me for a moment, there is a method to my madness. Even if you allow your browser or devices to save many of your passwords, usually there are a couple that you make sure to keep under lock and key for security reasons, and find yourself using them on a fairly regular basis. So my suggestion is changing those to be a compliment to yourself or a mantra, basically something positive meant for you. I have to admit, I got this idea from my daughter. She made a password along the lines of IMAmazing, and every time she types in that password she grins and remembers how amazing she is. Of course, still keep your password secure and use those numbers and symbols, but make them for you. Little tweaks like a password reset are a great way to begin a reset of your mindset and life. It’s a small way to have a little reminder built into your day to allow you to appreciate all of your awesomeness.

If you would like support and even permission to unleash your awesomeness I invite you to take a look at The Have It All Method where you will get out from under the burden of you daily “To Do” list, and begin to fulfill your desires. Reset, Rejuvenate, and Receive! How to Create Vision to Your Goals – #MyVision

It’s 2017! Have you made your vision board yet? More and more people are getting on board with visualizing their success to achieve goals, but is there really anything to it?

According to the Huffington Post

“…advice columnists tell us to “visualize success” or to “imagine our greatest possibilities”. While this is inspiring, is there actually a science behind this? The brief answer to this question is: yes. Although visualization was regarded as “new age hype” for many years, research has shown that there is a strong scientific basis for how and why visualization works. It is now a well-known fact that we stimulate the same brain regions when we visualize an action and when we actually perform that same action. For example, when you visualize lifting your right hand, it stimulates the same part of the brain that is activated when you actually lift your right hand. This shared area of brain activation when we imagine an action and perform it has been demonstrated extensively in the scientific literature.”

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/srinivasan-pillay/the-science-of-visualizat_b_171340.html

Simply put visualization is practicing an event before it even happens. Athletes have used this technique for years. When you let your mind run through the scenario of your success, you create a memory. So when you truly find yourself in the situation, your mind immediately knows what to do, and leads you to success.

So let’s get to it.

The first thing to get in order is what are your true goals? How do you get to your true goals, and past the sabotaging beliefs that block you from them? You have to clear your mind. However, for the great majority of us with a huge “to do list”, kids, and responsibilities it may not be effective to just stop what we’re doing and meditate. So to clear your mind, move your body. This is the foundation of yoga, which is a great way to accomplish this task. Another way is to go for a walk in a place that inspires you, and takes your mind off of your thoughts. For me, the best way is with Chakra Flow movement. I use music and movement that targets each of the chakras to clear out my mind, and immediately follow it with journaling on topic with the targeted chakra to get to my true desires about each of those areas of my life, and any blocks I may have. (Learn more about Chakras and the areas of your life they represent in my webinar)

This first step is so crucial. Sometimes our goals are buried under cultural or familial expectations. Or we make goals for things we think we want such as better health, weight loss, more money, etc. but that isn’t the true root of your goal, and without the true inspiration – your “big WHY”, it’s difficult to dedicate yourself to the work it really takes to accomplish your goals. This always reminds me of the women I spoke with who wanted to lose 50 lbs by Valentine’s Day. Why 50 lbs? That was the last time she really felt good about herself? Why Valentine’s Day? She felt ready to be in a relationship again. Which meant her goal wasn’t to lose weight, it was to feel good about herself and get in a relationship again. Which goal do you think she’ll have better success in achieving? So you must take the time to get to your pure intentions.

Once you have that figured out, create a vision board or mind movie that represents those goals for you. Your vision board can be digital, and placed on your desktop, or you can cut and paste, and hang it on the wall where you will see it (by your bed is a great place so you see it as soon as you wake up, and before you go to bed). You can also make a mind movie with a slideshow of inspiring pictures, mantras, and music to watch at the beginning of your day. As far as I’m concerned, you can do all of the above, and completely surround yourself with inspiration. I also find that putting a picture of your “big WHY” on your board is a great motivator.

Be sure to stretch yourself with your goals. Last year, I achieved everything on my vision board by August, and I thought I had some lofty goals on there. You are your only limit, so reach for the stars.

Now we get down to work. Looking at those goals you have, decide how you will break them down into chunks. What do you want to accomplish each month in working towards those goals, each week, and each day? Make it concrete – use numbers, then track your numbers somewhere, such as your calendar, or in a spreadsheet.

One of the biggest ways to ensure you stay on track is with accountability. Last month, I wanted to dedicate myself to doing one thing for me per day, so I put it out there on social media to hold myself accountable, and I really did it, and am so glad I did. I really felt the difference that the simple act of taking care of me really made in my mood and focus on those hectic days. Share your goal with someone that will give you judgment free, but firm accountability. Or share it on the Kalusion Health & Harmony Facebook page for support.

Everything you dream of is inside of you ready to become, and you are the one that will make it happen. She believed she could, so she did!

Trust me, I know the pitfalls of going it alone. We may get there eventually, but it definitely takes a lot longer. If you want judgment free accountability and support in achieving your personal and professional goals, check out The Have It All Method, or contact me for a Clarity Huddle – a one to one phone call where we can talk about what you want to accomplish and find out if The Have It All Method is a good fit for making that happen.  A group session for The Have It All Method is launching January 16, so move fast.

My huge challenge to myself this December #MyGift

mygift-screenshot

Last year, after the holidays, I created a vision board, and I must say it was wildly successful. I achieved everything I put on that board, which was a major accomplishment, however, there was one goal where I really ebbed and flowed. It was my goal to do something indulgent for myself EVERY day. Now, by indulgent I don’t mean spending every single day at the spa; sometimes accepting someone’s offer of help is an indulgence for me, or accepting a compliment. Yet these are things I must absolutely do, or the offers will stop coming.

I have written in the past about the importance of making yourself a priority, and not back burnering (I’m going to copyright that word) your needs. It is such a valuable read, and definitely worth the couple of minutes it takes to click and read through it.

I decided that for the month of December, I would really challenge myself and hold myself accountable. I will post one thing I have done for myself every day with #mygift. I’m a little nervous going into this challenge, but you don’t truly create new habits until you declare your intentions to the world, so here goes. I invite you to join me by posting the gifts you give yourself and hashtag it #mygift. Please share them to the Kalusion Health & Harmony page, so I can be sure to read them all, and get some inspiration. Here we go!
